IJEBU- IGBO: THE HEARTBEAT OF IJEBULAND, PRODUCING NEARLY ALL THE SENATORS FROM IJEBULAND SINCE 1954 FROM OBA SENSOR ADEBOYE TO SENATOR MUSTAPHA

The 1954 Constitution structured Nigeria into federation of three regions, West, East and North.

Ijebu is one of the sub-ethnic groups constituting the Western region. And since that 1954, Ijebu Igbo has politically been taking the lead, making it a prominent town to reckon with.

In 1955 when Ijebu Division Council, constituting all Ijebu traditional rulers, was created by the British administration, *ORIMOLUSI ADEBOYE* elected to be the Council Chairman, and ruled over Ijebuland. He was the person who placed Ijebu Igbo in global record.

After 1957 Constitutional Conference when Western House of Chiefs was created, *ORIMOLUSI ADETAYO* predominantly represented Ijebuland in House Parliament in Ibadan, taking the lead in Ijebuland administration.

In 1965 Nigeria Presidential Election, an Ijebu Igbo descendant, *Senator Thomas A. Idowu*, became the first Senator to respresent Ijebuland during Western Region.
In 1979 second republic, Senator Abrahm Adesanya represented Ijebu in the National Assembly. This was the era Ijebu Igbo turned to Mecca for the Politicians.

In 1999, Senator Biyi Durojaiye represented Ijebus in the National Assembly. He was one of the frontliners in June12 struggle.

In 2007, *Senator Lekan Mustapha* dominated Ijebuland politically as the number one Ijebu man in Ijebuland legislative Council.

In 2011, a two-time former Commissioner and deputy governor, *Senator Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka*, took the prestige of Ijebu Igbo far and near politically, and as an Afeniferean who carried a lot of clout.

In 2015, Senator Buruji Kashamu took a new dimension to proclaim Ijebu Igbo glory, a Senator with no rival who made the Ijebu Igbo name rang like bell across the nation.

In 2019, Senator Olamilekn Mustapha strategically returned to dominate Ijebuland politically.

In Ijebuland, Ijebu Igbo can never be relegated in all ramifications. It is the largest in landmass, sharing boundary with Oyo, Osun and Ondo.

*DOES SUCH A UNIQUE TOWN NOT DESERVE TO BE THE CAPITAL OF IJEBU STATE?*
