Oyo South: Oseni Honours Presidential Directive, Declares Senate Bid• Reaffirms Commitment to One Million Votes for Tinubu
A member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has aligned with emerging presidential directives within the All Progressives Congress (APC), formally declaring his intention to contest the Oyo South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Oseni’s declaration follows a recent strategic meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, where party leaders reportedly deliberated on consensus-building and unity ahead of forthcoming electoral contests.
This development marks a significant shift, as the lawmaker had earlier been widely speculated to be among the key contenders for the Oyo State governorship seat.
The federal lawmaker unveiled his senatorial ambition during a high-level meeting with the Ibarapa APC Elders’ and Leaders’ Forum—comprising the influential G9 and expanded G64 caucus—held at the party secretariat in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area last Sunday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, Oseni expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by party leaders, stressing that his aspiration is anchored on consolidating and expanding his developmental strides.
“This aspiration is not built on mere rhetoric, but on the continuity and expansion of a proven track record of quality representation and grassroots-oriented governance,” he said.
Describing his Senate bid as a call to higher service, Oseni emphasised that his ambition is driven by responsibility and a commitment to inclusive development across Oyo South.
“This is not about self-glory but a sacred responsibility to deepen development, deliver greater relief to our people, and ensure inclusive governance,” he added.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, the lawmaker restated his commitment to delivering one million votes for the president in the next election cycle, urging party stakeholders to support mobilisation efforts.
He also pledged not to betray the trust reposed in him, maintaining that his aspiration is rooted in progressive ideals and people-centred leadership.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Ibarapa APC Elders’ Forum, Chief Timothy Jolaoso, described Oseni as a candidate with widespread grassroots acceptance that transcends political divides.
“All indicators point to Oseni as a candidate with broad-based support. He possesses the goodwill, capacity, and public trust required for higher responsibility,” Jolaoso said.
The elder statesman further commended Oseni’s performance in the House of Representatives, noting that his leadership as Chairman of the FERMA Committee underscores his competence and commitment to infrastructural development.
