DON'T DESTROY TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN YORUBA LAND, RESPECT OYOMESI DECISION... NIGERIAN DIASPORA BASED HON. EEDRIS OLUSESI FIRES AT GOV. SEYI MAKINDE OVER THE SELECTION OF THE NEW ALAAFIN DESIGNATE; PRINCE AKEEM ABIMBOLA OWOADE

The recent actions of Governor Seyi Makinde concerning the selection of the new Alaafin of Oyo raise serious concerns about the encroachment of political authority on traditional and cultural institutions. Historically, the Oyo Mesi, as the kingmakers, possess the exclusive right to select the Alaafin, a process deeply rooted in Yoruba tradition. However, the governor’s reported decision to override their selection of Prince Lukman Adelodun Gbadegesin by installing Prince Abimbola Akin Owoade instead undermines this time-honored practice and reflects a disregard for cultural sovereignty.

This imposition is not only a breach of tradition but also sets a dangerous precedent, where political interests could consistently override established cultural systems. Such actions erode the autonomy and sanctity of traditional institutions, threatening the preservation of heritage and the communal trust these institutions uphold.
Furthermore, Governor Makinde’s administration has been criticized for its stance on local government autonomy. Despite constitutional provisions that guarantee local governments the independence to manage their affairs, the governor has consistently centralized control, failing to account transparently for local government funds and properties, including essential equipment such as bulldozers, graders, and dump trucks reportedly left behind by the previous administration.

The perceived failure to empower local governments or adhere to cultural protocols reflects a pattern of governance that prioritizes political expediency over accountability and respect for institutional roles. As a public servant, Governor Makinde has a duty to uphold the traditions and rights of the people he governs while ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

In light of these issues, it is imperative for the governor to:
 1. Respect the Oyo Mesi’s decision regarding the Alaafin of Oyo to preserve the integrity of the Yoruba cultural institution.
 2. Clarify the state’s position on local government autonomy and ensure the judicious use of funds and properties allocated to these councils.
 3. Provide a detailed account of all local government resources inherited from his predecessor to build public trust.
4.  Provide details information as where is the Payloader packed @ Ibadan SWLG office, Aleshinloye  removed to???

Governance should complement tradition, not undermine it. The people of Oyo State deserve a government that not only respects their cultural values but also upholds accountability, transparency, and fairness.
Hon. Olusesi Idris
