OYO CENTRAL LEGISLATIVE CAUCUS, LED BY SENATOR YUNUS AKINTUNDE HOLDS SYNERGY MEETING WITH IBDEC FOR EFFICIENT ELECTRICITY SUPPLY

Electricity power services will improve with excellent synergy between stakeholders.
 
There is the possibility of improved service delivery in the distribution of electricity if there is excellent synergy between the various stakeholders in the sector.

This was central in the outcome of a dialogue session between the Oyo Central Senatorial District legislative caucus and the Executive Management Team of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company IBDEC during a parley held recently at the headquarter of IBDEC in Ibadan.

The Senator Yunus Akintunde led legislative caucus had earlier scheduled the visit to identify the critical issues of concern from the public end users on epileptic and unstable power supply, rectifying of technical faults and disturbing situation of exploitation of the public on power infrastructure inputs among others.

However the parley after detailed and robust exchange of views and ideas identified various constraints of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company mitigating the extant capacity and commitment to excellent service delivery.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of the Company Engineer Kingsley Achife while thanking the Legislators for the scheduled parley identified the challenges of excessive operational costs, infrastructure maintenance, unfavourable tariff structure and variances between corporate, industrial and household customers and the business strategic interest of the company as very critical to a position of mutually beneficial synergy between the company and the consumers.
Present at the meeting was Senator Dr Yunus Akintunde, Distinguished Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, some Members of Federal House of Representatives, Hon Akeem Adeyemi Skimeh from Oyo Federal Constituency, Hon Wasiu Olafioye, Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency and Hon Ojo Sunday Makanjuola, Ogo Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency. Hon. Mui' Olalekan Olagunju the Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Yunus Akintunde also joined the Team.

The Chief Executive officer, Engineer Achiefe however assured them of various action plans and commitments that will soon manifest in sustained efforts of excellent service delivery to the customers irrespective of status and location.

Among those actions include the collaboration with Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN on the completion of the two substations located within the Oyo Central Senatorial Constituency, ease of allocation of prepaid meters, direct repair and refurbishment of transformers at the company's Eleyele depot and technical department, improved response time on repairs and reconnection.

In addition, the IBDEC management while advocating for cooperation and synergy with the legislative arm of government requested for thorough evaluation of existing laws and enactment of new guidelines and regulations towards ensuring quality service delivery for the benefits of the consumers of electricity within communities.

He further promised to look into the major challenge of power outages in Lalupon and other communities mostly hit as identified by the federal legislators when Honorable Olafioye specifically mentioned that it is a prolonged challenge in the last two years.

The Senator Akintunde led committee assured the Executive Team of IBDEC on the sustenance of such useful position of synergetic relationship to avoid unnecessary infractions and clash of interest, taking the advantage of the kind of benefits the parley has provided.

" The purpose of this kind of meeting and robust exchange of ideas will definitely ensure a mutually beneficial working relationship whereby we can provide lasting solutions to the lingering electricity power distribution devoid of working at cross purposes" said Senator Yunus Akintunde.
