President Approved ₦510b Road Projects For Osun, Ogun and Oyo states

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, April 30, 2026, approved a record number of road projects in a single sitting, with over ₦510 billion allocated to three major infrastructure initiatives in the Southwest states of Osun, Oyo, and Ogun.

Announced by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, the approvals include the total reconstruction of the 90.9-kilometre Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan road at ₦114 billion, the dualisation of the 56-kilometre Ibadan–Ijebu Ode road at ₦295 billion, and the reconstruction of the 59.2-kilometre Osogbo–Akoda–Bunga road at ₦101 billion.a6c0a4

The Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan corridor, a vital commercial link between Osun and Oyo states, has long suffered from poor conditions, hindering trade and agriculture.

Its reconstruction using durable concrete pavement is expected to significantly reduce travel time, enhance safety, and boost economic activities in the Iwoland axis and surrounding communities.
The Ibadan–Ijebu Ode dualisation project, to be handled by Julius Berger, will improve connectivity between Oyo and Ogun states, easing traffic congestion on this busy route and supporting commerce.

The Osogbo–Akoda–Bunga road will further strengthen intra-state mobility in Osun.
These approvals form part of a larger package of about 10 major road projects cleared by the FEC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, signalling a strong federal commitment to infrastructure renewal in the Southwest.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commended President Tinubu and Minister Umahi for the gesture, describing the projects as timely relief that will stimulate economic growth and ease transportation challenges.

Residents and stakeholders in the affected areas have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the projects will be executed promptly to deliver lasting benefits. Construction is expected to commence soon, with emphasis on quality and timely delivery.
