Let me be unequivocal: freedom of association and expression are not optional in a democracy — they are fundamental rights. Alongside these stand the pillars of a just and functional democratic society: the people, the rule of law, credible elections, and accountability. It is my pleasure to be here today and to be a partaker in this year’s edition of the Oke Ibadan Festival here in Ibadan, Oyo State. 2. SENATOR ALLI ILLUMINATES IBARAPA LAND WITH SOLAR LIGHTS

By Akeem Abas  Residents of Ibarapa zone in Oyo South now enjoy improved night mobility, thanks to solar-powered streetlights installed by Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC–Oyo South) across three local governments. The solar project aims to enhance safety, stimulate local economies, and address infrastructure needs in Ibarapa Central, Ibarapa North, and Ibarapa East, covering several wards and underserved communities. In Ibarapa Central, installations were done in Ita Abass to Imeleke Chalet, Igboora (Ward 5 & Ward 6), Olokodo area, Igboora (Ward 9) and Famadex Road, Idere (Ward 1). In Ibarapa North, the solar streetlights were installed from AUD axis to Odo Eran, Igangan(Ward 4), Ayete’s Ward 2 got installations from C&S Church to Odo Ide and Oluwafin Street, Ikogba Downward, Tapa (Ward 9). Oyo State governor, 'Seyi Makinde, on Friday, said that his administration's commitment to improving the education sector has been yielding positive results. The governor stated this while inaugurating the Governing Councils of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, and the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan. Governor Makinde, at the event held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor's Office, said Oyo State owned one university and a half when he took office in 2019, but that the state is now the sole owner of three universities, which are doing well in their own rights. Bayo Bashir Ojulari, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), is a seasoned Nigerian engineer with expertise in petroleum, process, and production engineering.   Before his new appointment, He was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company. His Renaissance recently led a consortium of indigenous energy firms in the landmark acquisition of the entire equity holding in the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), worth $2.4 billion.   He began his career as the first Nigerian process engineer at Elf Aquitaine before joining Shell Petroleum Development Company in 1991. The board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been sacked. President Bola Tinubu approved a sweeping reconstitution of the NNPC Limited board on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. This involved the removal of the chairman, Chief Pius Akinyelure, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari, and all other board members appointed with them in November 2023.
