BREAKING NEWS; KANO ASSEMBLY REINSTATES LAMIDO SANUSI II AS EMIR OF KANO
Amidst the removal of Emir Bayero and other emirs, Sanusi II is reinstated as Kano's emir by order of the state assembly.
Integrity Media has confirmed that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II was reinstated as the Emir of Kano by the Kano State House of Assembly. This comes after the Assembly's decision to depose the current Emir and dissolve the four new Emirates established in the state in 2019.
Meanwhile Sanusi II is due to return to Kano on Friday without any official confirmation of his reinstatement. According to the same source, the passing of the Amendment Bill automatically reinstates Sanusi without requiring confirmation.
The actions taken to restructure the Kano Emirate were viewed as a political ploy that intended to weaken and diminish the influence of Sanusi II, a vocal critic of the then governor Abdullahi Ganduje administration.
The new Emirate system dilutes the power and influence of the Kano Emirate Council. Meanwhile, Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, who sponsored the Amendment Bill, has announced to reporters that the bill has been forwarded to the governor for approval, which would initiate the process of selecting a new king to govern all five Kano Emirate councils.
