IT IS FRAUDULENT FOR COMMUNITY TO BE BUYING TRANSFORMERS ON BEHALF OF ELECTRICITY COMPANY... SENATOR YUNUS AKINTUNDE

The senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in the red chamber, Dr. Yunus Biodun Akintunde has described the practice of communities or Landlords buying transformers in order to enjoy power supply as a fraudulent practice.

The Senator stated this while featuring on Jamz 100.1fm's current affairs programme called Periscope on Sunday monitored by the Integrity Media News.

His words "it is fraudulent for people to be buying transformers on behalf of private company, if the company isn't in operation again, who owns the transformer? It's just like paying for jingles in your radio station and you are still asking me money to buy dissle"

Asked to comment about  what he has done since Inauguration way back in June. He responded " I was the one that moved the motion to stop the electricity tariff increase when the power company wanted to increase the tariff, the motion was seconded by Senator Asukuno which made the federal government to stop the increment as a member of the Senate Committee on power. I also secured job for 8 qualified Electric Engineers and  a senior Lawyer is in the Police Service Commission, all from my senatorial district since assuming office, not minding that I was at the Tribunal for five months out of seven months.
I also co-sponsored bill that settled resident doctors from going on strike"
When the Presenter of the programme, an Award Winning ECOWAS Ambassador,
Amb. Olayemi Afolabi asked him what Nigerians can benefit from the recently passed 2024 budget. Sen. Akintunde replied; " There are three modern hospitals in 2024 budget to be built in  Oyo Central Senatorial district, Nigerians will gain a lot of infrastructural development like schools and roads. There is a road in Oluyole Local Government, Ayegun-Oleyo that is parallel to the Olomi-Academy road leading to the Baale Oleyo House which I changed the status from been a Local Government Road to a Federal Road and as I speak to you, there is 1.5 billion naira on it for construction through 2023 supplimentary budget.

I know what that change of ownership to federal status cost me not monetary but in terms of efforts"

On what he intends  to do within the four years of his mandate. He said" I am working on the upgrading status of Federal College of Education, Special Oyo, to become University, you know that is it the only one we have in the country. A lecturer in a college of education can't become a professor but a university  lecturer can become a professor, the bill has passed third reading.

We have built seven public schools across Oyo Central Senatorial District and 8 more are still coming because the Language of our President, Asiwsju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is that we are in government to serve the people"

On empowerment, Senator Yunus Akintunde said he has empowered many tailors across Oyo Central Senatorial district with tailoring materials and support funds.
You attended United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Dubai, what does Nigeria stands to gain?

"Nigeria stands to gain a lot because participating in such international conference will make you understand the value of preserving trees and let people know that every house should have a tree that can create favorable oxygen that engender good climate"

On large delegates to Dubai, Senator Yunus Akintunde said "Many Nigerian Journalists need to do cross checking before making stories, I attended the conference as the chairman of the Senate committee on environment and I didn't go on Federal Government list, Dangote was there, he wasn't part of the federal government delegates, Okonjo Iweala was there, but she was not there as a delegate of the government, Nigerian Community in Dubai were also there so if a Journalist do not do his or her job thoroughly the public can be misinformed"

  1. But what has he done as a Senator to ensure the issue is discussed on the floor of the house in order to stop the fraudulent act. It is high time our leader stop paying lip services. We want to see their action speaking.
