HOW TO BE A POLITICIAN, THE FATE OF ASIWSJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU.

Positioning and and right time are essential elements in achieving goals and life ambitions.


Atiku Abubakar and Asiwsju Bola Ahmed Tinubu are key examples to be studied in going about public life ambition.

They both started politics around the same time in the aborted third republic.
While Tinubu contested for Lagos West Senatorial District and won in 1992, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar contested for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Presidential ticket against the more formidable MKO Abiola in 1993 and lost the race to MKO ABIOLA having came third and later stepped down for rival Abiola owing to the late general Shehu Yar'adua persuasion.


At the entering of this fourth republic, Atiku Abubakar and Asiwsju Bola Ahmed Tinubu contested and won gubernatorial elections in their respective states of Adamawa and Lagos.

Before Atiku could assume office as elected governor of Adamawa state, fate smiled on him as he was picked by former president Olusegun Obasanjo to serve as the number two citizen.
So while Tinubu served Lagos State as the governor from 1999-2007, Atiku Abubakar was the Vice President of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria between 1999-2007.

Timing and positioning, from 2007 untill 2023, Tinubu never contested any political post but rather carefully built foot soldiers within progressive camp across the country.


It should be noted that from 2007-2023 Atiku Abubakar has contested every election either at the primary or general elections. He defected from PDP to Action Congress, AC, in the build up to 2007 general elections.

Atiku Abubakar left AC to PDP later decamped to APC in year 2014 where he contested for the presidential primaries of APC along with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Muhammadu Buhari in Lagos.

From 1992 till date, Tinubu political philosophy has been very consistent, he has never left the progressives camp.

In 2007, Tinubu formed AC and the Action Congress's presidential candidate was Atiku Abubakar.

In 2011 Tinubu ACN had Mallam Nuhu Ridbadu as its presidential candidate.

ACN, ANPP, CPC and a faction of APGA formed APC with ACN donating six serving governors and CPC of general Muhammadu Buhari having one governor in Nasarawa State.

If Tinubu were to be Atiku Abubakar, he would have contested APC presidential primaries in Lagos prior to 2015 general elections.

The moral political lesson here is that understanding when and how to lunch while strategically positioning yourself is key.

On record, Tinubu has never lost any election as he has won every election he contested from senate to governorship and now presidential election.
