```Oyo State Governorship in 2027: Power Must Shift

Since governorship is not a birthright or exclusive right of a town or zone, it is imperative that the critical stakeholders of Oyo State must come together to discuss, prepare  and execute an agreement on power sharing or rotation amongst the various zones of Oyo State. In the light of what gave birth to Obedient Movement and G5, power sharing agreement,  particularly the zoning of the governorship of Oyo State is long overdue. 

Who should champion this cause?  The patriotic and democratic Northern Governors Forum have demonstrated an uncommon maturity by standing firm even against the powers that be, including the cabals by spearheading the struggle to return power to the South after Buhari's  8 years in office. We  are waiting and appealing to the lovers of justice, equity and fairness to begin to put machinery in motion to let other zones of Oyo State take the governorship by 2027.

You will recall that this is the 3rd time, the Northerners are teaching us that they are more matured,  democratic, tolerant and accommodating than the rest of the country. 

In 1993, they did by voting overwhelmingly for MKO Abiola and against their son, Bashir Tofa. 

In 1999, they made sure two major political parties were allowed to field Southern candidates, particularly South West ( Obasanjo and Falae).

And again, in 2023, against all odds, they supported Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at both the primaries and the presidential elections.  

Yes, power is not served ala carte, but we can work it out with an understanding. 

The earlier the who is who in Ibadans started telling their sons that it will be against the principle of equity, justice and fairness for Ibadans to back another candidate from Ibadan for governorship in 2027 after a consecutive 16 years of Ajimobi and Makinde (both Ibadans) in addition to the 4 years of Lam Adesina and 4 years of Chief Ladoja. 

Don't forget that Chief Olunloyo and Chief Kolapo Ishola were also of Ibadan extraction and they both governed Oyo State no matter the shortness of their administration. 

I hope also, that Gov Seyi Makinde will also stand on his word to support justice, equity and unity of Oyo State in 2027.

Oyo state is a pacesetter state. But politically,  we seem not to be pacesetting . Now, the time is ripe to emulate this exemplary conduct of the Northern Governors Forum.  

History will be kind to whoever of Ibadan extraction that  started dreaming this way and planning to actualize the power shift to other zones. 

The Northern Governors Forum have written their names in gold. You can also write yours by skewing the guber tickets of both APC and PDP  in favour of non Ibadan indigines in 2027.  It's doable if we are sincere and determined to do it.

The other zones of Okeogun,  Ogbomoso,  Oyo and Ibarapa just have to make up their minds, create a platform that will be big enough to  accommodate the lovers of justice and fairness from Ibadan. 

As a matter of fact, the battle is easier fought and won with the understanding and cooperation of the Ibadans.
